The key is to expose children to as many stories as possible. From talking animals and adventure tales, through time and into space, there are many options. A visit to the library, or even a bookstore, should be an adventure in and of itself. Let them browse through the books and choose anything that catches their attention, even if it is a comic book that you’ve already read 57 or more times.
Talking about comic books, do not undervalue them! Graphic novels may be a way to explore deeper literary waters. These books combine art with text to captivate children who might not otherwise enjoy dense pages. You may remember when you were first hooked by Calvin and Hobbes. Exactly.
Telling stories at home is a great way to entertain your family. Have you tried transforming your home into a spontaneous stage? Bring stories to your little one’s attention by using props like an old hat and blanket cape. This is a fun way to stimulate the imagination and reinforce narrative skills, without it feeling like work.
